Feedback

Edited: June 10, 2020 (v0.0.5)

Part of owning your own career is seeking feedback.

  • Write yourself a year in review. Be your own critic. But don’t be too critical of yourself.
  • Write a report card, and fill it out for yourself. Share it with your peers and leaders.
  • Keep a journal for yourself. Find a cadence that you can keep yourself plugged in to. If daily doesn’t work, try weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly, but make sure you don’t forget meaningful updates. It’s more important to develop a rythym you can keep than to have many entries.
  • If you’re seeking feedback because you want to grow, for example into a new role, you should be prepared for increased criticism. In effect, you’re asking people to raise the bar for you. So be prepared. It’s a good thing.
